新的申請季又要開始了！

眾所周知，Common App是美國本科三大申請系統(tǒng)之一，也是申請者最多的一個系統(tǒng)。Common App的文書題目也會經(jīng)常調(diào)整，目的是幫助所有申請者，不論背景、是否使用咨詢服務(wù)，都能通過這些題目找到共鳴，分享自己的故事。這些題目啟發(fā)學(xué)生對自己、社區(qū)、身份以及理想展開思考與討論，也更方便招生官找到適合自己學(xué)校的申請者。
春節(jié)剛過，Common App就公布了2021-2022主文書題目，與去年相比，僅更新了一個題目，這也是五年來第一次變更文書題目。CA官方的解釋是：淘汰較少使用的選項。
題目一：Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.（無變化）
題目二：The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
解釋：通過你遇到的困難，講述你是如何克服困難或者是失敗的經(jīng)歷，這件事對你有什么影響，并在此過程中你收獲了什么經(jīng)驗教訓(xùn)。題為寫“失敗”，但實則應(yīng)透過這次經(jīng)歷展現(xiàn)你的“成長”，不要一味單純描述失敗。
這個題目在2017年做了微調(diào)，增加了“挑戰(zhàn)、阻礙內(nèi)容要求”，之前的要求是只寫失敗就可以了，申請者應(yīng)當(dāng)書寫文書時應(yīng)當(dāng)注意重點。
題目三：Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?（無變化）
題目四：Reflect on something that someone has done for you that has made you happy or thankful in a surprising way. How has this gratitude affected or motivated you?（有變化）
（原舊題目）：Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma - anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
新題目是讓申請人回想某人為你做的讓你驚喜或感激的事。這種感激是如何影響或激勵你的?這個題目比較新穎，先是別人對你影響，然后由此對你產(chǎn)生的影響。不僅僅是影響本身，更應(yīng)該思考你在這種影響下的改變，要有例證。
CA解釋到，這個題目靈感來源于感恩話題的探討，特別是寫別人對我們生活的積極影響的好處。猜測可能是由于疫情，我們都可能受益于他人幫助、支持，而這些動人的故事，可能激發(fā)我們感恩他人、回饋社區(qū)等，以及我們有哪些實際行動等。
Common App總裁兼首席執(zhí)行官珍妮·里卡德(Jenny Rickard)說到:“尤其是在這個充滿挑戰(zhàn)的時期，我們可以幫助學(xué)生思考生活中積極和真誠的事情。
新的問題將激勵學(xué)生們書寫不一樣的故事，大學(xué)招生官也會很高興看到不一樣的故事。雖然一個文書題不能抹去過去12個月的失落和焦慮，但它可以證明感恩和善良的重要性。
希望學(xué)生們可以看到COMMON這個新問題的初衷——為他們的申請體驗帶來一些樂趣。
印第安納大學(xué)助理副教務(wù)長兼招生執(zhí)行主任Sacha Thieme這樣評價道：
“作為Common Application 咨詢委員會的一名成員，我很感激了解到選題這個仔細(xì)慎重的過程，包括各種咨詢和學(xué)生利益相關(guān)者，以建議修改文書題目。
在這段艱難的時期，這將會激勵學(xué)生和那些審閱文書的招生官，讓他們想起慷慨和感激可以孕育出喜悅和希望。”
題目五：Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.（無變化）
題目六：Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?（無變化）
題目七：Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design.（無變化）
